Stephen Appiah, Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, has expressed strong support for the senior national team, showing his belief in their ability to secure a victory against Madagascar in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Appiah’s support follows the Black Stars’ impressive 5-0 victory over Chad, with the former player urging the team to carry forward this momentum. The four-time African champions delivered a dominant performance at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, rising to the top of Group I with 12 points from five matches. This victory boosted Ghana’s World Cup qualification hopes and solidified their status as a strong contender in the qualifiers.
While addressing the team at their hotel in Morocco, Appiah delivered an emotional and motivating speech, urging the players to step up and make Ghana proud.
The former Black Stars captain reminded the players of the significance of the jersey they wear and offered his full support to the team, confidently stating that they have the ability to defeat Madagascar and secure a win.
“We believe in you, and we know you’re going to do it. This is the World Cup. Make yourselves proud and make Ghana proud. We wish you the best of luck,” said the former Black Stars captain, who led Ghana to their first World Cup appearance in 2006. He emphasized the importance of mental strength, pointing out that the upcoming match against Madagascar will present a different challenge compared to their recent victory over Chad.
“You know the game against Madagascar will be different from the one against Chad because they play a different style. So, you need to adjust your mindset,” he advised.
Following their recent win over Chad, Ghana now leads the group with 12 points, two ahead of second-placed Madagascar with 10 points. Comoros is in third with 9 points after a 3-0 loss to Mali, who sit fourth with 8 points. The Central African Republic is in fifth place with 4 points.
The Black Stars’ quest for qualification continues with a vital away match against Madagascar on Monday, March 24. A win in this fixture would give the Black Stars a commanding lead in Group I.
