Kuami Eugene’s attire choice Ignites controversy at late father’s 40th day observation

Kuami Eugene, a popular Ghanaian High-life and Afrobeat singer-songwriter, has come under fire yet again for his late father’s 40th day observation at New Fadama in Accra.

The unorthodox ensemble picked by the 2020 VGMA Artiste of the Year has sparked a flurry of comments, eliciting both debate and criticism.

The Lynxx Entertainment signee wore a remarkably unconventional costume to the sombre occasion designed to honour his father, Alex Marfo’s memory.

The outfit included a black long-sleeved shirt, trousers, platform boots, and even earrings—a departure from the traditional burial clothing seen in Ghanaian culture.

Social media videos showed the singer strolling beside his crew, seemingly at ease.

As he made his way to the service location, he appeared comfortable, even chewing gum.

This nonchalant approach, however, appeared to conflict with the gravity of the situation and garnered significant condemnation.

Critics quickly expressed their displeasure on social media. They claimed that Kuami Eugene’s dress was inappropriate for a burial service, especially one honouring his own father.

The attire was criticised for being inappropriate and missing the solemnity that such an event requires.

“Oh, spirit of dressing enter kuami.. wai?” wrote social media user kwamsofficial. while ampofowaa1 posted, “See hairstyle and shoe wei”

Many Ghanaians have expressed dissatisfaction with the trendy and flamboyant costume, which stood in stark contrast to the traditional attire used at funerals in Ghana.

“At your father’s funeral…..????🙄 Asking for a friend, you can’t do this in Ashanti kingdom 😂 Never 😂 At your father’s…????🙄” another poster queried.

As the anger grew, other people presented an alternate viewpoint, questioning why Ghanaians were consistently criticising the 27-year-old.

“So, whatever this guy does, people will criticise it, what is it?” Another user interrogated fiercely.

“When it comes to Eugene, only negative comments, what has he done wrong hmm?” said another.

This is not the first time Kuami Eugene’s dress choices have been scrutinised.

He was recently chastised for wearing what was essentially a “school uniform” to the BET Awards in Los Angeles.

Throughout the years, the artist’s attire at other events have regularly sparked debate.

Details of the funeral are yet to be announced, however, several Ghanaian celebrities and showbiz personalities including Bola Ray, Richie and others were present to support the “Cryptocurrency” singer at the 40th-day observation of his dad’s passing.
