Ghana has been forewarned by Raoul Savoy of the Central African Republic to expect another unsuccessful campaign at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will take place in Ivory Coast the following year.

After defeating the Central African Republic on Thursday in the final round of qualifications, the Black Stars, who had one of their worst tournaments ever at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, have secured their spot in the next edition.

Despite a shaky start to the game, the Black Stars came back to overcome the Wild Beasts 2-1 with goals from Mohammed Kudus and Ernest Nuamah, ending the aspirations of their opponents to make history by becoming the first team to play in the continental championship.

After the match, Savoy refused to acknowledge Ghana’s victory, denouncing their play and attributing the result to the referees.

He claimed that Ghana’s performance was ordinary and that, like their dismal campaign in Cameroon, it will be shown once more when they travelled to Ivory Coast.

As he departed the Baba Yara Stadium press room, a reliable Savoy predicted that “your next AFCON will be like the last one.”

The Black Stars, who needed to defeat debutants Comoros in order to move on from their group at the most recent AFCON in Cameroon, were ousted in the group stage after garnering just one point from their group.

Before their match against Comoros, Ghana had previously lost to Morocco in the opener and tied 1-1 with Gabon.

While pursuing their fifth trophy since their last triumph in 1982, Ghana is still gunning for the AFCON championship.
