We’ll mount severe pressure to the BoG Governor and his appointees until they step down.  Sammy Gyamfi

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it won’t give up on its effort to get Dr. Ernest Addison, the governor of Ghana’s Bank of Ghana (BoG), and his two deputy governors to quit.

Sammy Gyamfi claimed that the party has a thorough plan in place to accomplish its goal.

In an interview with Citi FM on Tuesday, August 7, he stated that they will unite their efforts to apply enough pressure to “these wreckers.”

According to the Public Order Act, he stated, this will be carried out.

“After 21 days, if the Governor of the BoG does not resign, all 137 MPs of the NDC, together with all progressive forces, our allies, well-meaning Ghanaians, and all patriots who are tired of the recklessness of this nation-wrecking Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government will be marching in accordance with the Public Order Act to the precinct of the BoG.”

And in order to exert enough pressure on these wreckers, the media and we will both be occupying the BoG. They won’t feel at ease until they resign, he said.

The NDC Spokesman insisted that the central bank is in danger of failing and that immediate action is required to stop more losses.

If the BoG is not recapitalized, it will soon collapse immediately. Additionally, the IMF appointed a police officer to serve as the governor’s bodyguard to prevent them from acting recklessly and criminally.

“In this circumstances, the BoG chose to construct a $250 million head office. Who does that when you are facing bankruptcy in the midst of a crisis? he questioned.

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, and his assistants have already been demanded to quit immediately by the minority in parliament.

This call was made by the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, during the NDC’s “Moment of Truth” speech on August 8 at the party’s headquarters.

The Minority Leader proclaimed, “We demand the immediate resignation of the Governor of the Central Bank and his deputies within 21 days from now.

Their request follows the Central Bank’s disclosure in its Annual Report and Financial Statements that itGH 60.8 billion in losses were recorded in 2022.

He stated that the bank had almost completely failed and blamed the governor of handling the bank incompetently.

He asserted that the Central Bank had been irresponsibly mishandled, bringing it to its knees, and that the Governor could no longer be trusted to oversee the bank without being held responsible.

“Those responsible for this specific action, which unleashed economic hardship and financial distress on the already-struggling people of Ghana, must be held accountable.

“In actuality, the suffering masses of Ghanaians can no longer accept impunity of the highest degree. Future leaders must not be subjected to risky precedents, he continued.

Dr. Ato Forson claims that the NDC will act if the governor and his deputies ignore his request is ready to respond appropriately.

In order to save the Bank of Ghana, he declared, “We are determined to launch popular action to occupy the Central Bank and drive out the team of incompetent, callous, and criminally motivated mismanagers of our finances.”
