The Ashanti Region’s Founding Fathers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have denied media allegations that they had approved Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto’s candidature for the party’s flagbearership.

According to the founding fathers, the reports are false and should be ignored by party members.

In a press release published on Wednesday, August 9, they requested those responsible for the spread of the allegations to stop.

On 07/08/23, there was a news item in both prime and electronic media claiming that Dr Afryie Akoto, a former Minister of Agriculture and an NPP Presidential Candidate contender, has guaranteed the support of the NPP founding members of Ashanti Region.

“We, the founding members of the NPP of Ashanti Region, wish to educate the public and aspirants that we constitute the ‘custodian fathers’ of the party in the region and do not or cannot openly declare our support for one particular candidate,” according to an excerpt from their statement.

As a result, they demanded that Dr. Afriyie Akoto recant the “unfortunate” statement as soon as possible.

“As a result, we find the news items unfortunate and refute them as false, and we urge Dr. Akoto to retract them as soon as possible.”
