The Chief of Staff has called an urgent meeting with key energy sector stakeholders to discuss the impending power crisis, also known as “dumsor.”
An emergency meeting was held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, just a day after his inauguration.
John Abdulai Jinapor, Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu and former Deputy Energy Minister, confirmed that the meeting brought together stakeholders from GRIDCo, WAPCo, VRA, GNPC, BOST, and other power generation companies.
The aim of the meeting is to develop both short-term and long-term strategies to stabilize the power supply and prevent widespread outages.
“Extensive technical work was carried out last night, and several options have been presented for discussion. His Excellency will be briefed, and I am confident he will provide further instructions through the Chief of Staff,” Jinapor stated in a media interview.
The energy crisis is largely due to inadequate fuel stocks, according to recent data. AKSA has just five hours of fuel remaining, KTPP’s reserves will last only 1.5 days, and Asogli has exhausted its fuel supply. While Cenpower has enough fuel for 20.9 days, it cannot meet the national demand on its own.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Government Spokesperson, revealed that a technical committee has been established to address the ongoing crisis and will submit a comprehensive roadmap to the government by the close of business on December 8, 2025.
The committee is composed of notable figures, including John Abdulai Jinapor, Emmanuel Kofi Buah, and Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.
As the Mahama-led administration takes swift action to resolve the situation, Ghanaians are closely following the outcome of these critical discussions, hoping to avert further power supply disruptions.
