Ten Hag heaps praises ‘dominant’ Maguire after United heroics

Harry Maguire enjoyed a moment of redemption against FC Copenhagen

Erik ten Hag praised Harry Maguire for scoring the winning goal in Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over FC Copenhagen, continuing the center-back’s comeback for the club.

With Maguire’s 72nd-minute goal and Andre Onana’s stunning save of a penalty with the game’s final kick, the Red Devils averted suffering another defeat at Old Trafford.

In recent games, Maguire has made his way back into Ten Hag’s starting lineup, and the Dutch coach is optimistic about the England international’s progress.

In his post-game press conference at Old Trafford, Ten Hag said the following about the defender: “He’s playing lot more proactive in possession, stepping in and passing.

“Also on the offensive foot, advancing to defend, and quite assured in the duel.

“I believe he is dominating at the appropriate time. He is outclassing his rivals.

Andre Onana celebrates his match-winning penalty save

“And after that, you can see that he is rewarded, and heading is undoubtedly a really strong skill on his part.

Goalkeeper Onana, who experienced unquestionably his best moment in a Red Devils uniform to date after a difficult start since his £47 million arrival from Inter Milan, will also feel very happy about the evening.

The Cameroonian stopper has that quality, according to Ten Hag. He excels at saving penalties.

“I thought today’s performance was just as good as Saturday’s.

Erik ten Hag was particularly disappointed with Manchester United's first-half display

Although United’s European campaign is now officially underway, the slim victory is unlikely to quell criticism after yet another lackluster performance.

“First half — not good,” Ten Hag continued.

Because Copenhagen was so well-organized, it was challenging. It was challenging to develop opportunities.

“When building up, we didn’t do the proper things. As a result, the game’s speed was off for us.

“I thought the second half was better. The construction was better.

We generated more opportunities and had more switches. Although it was a close call, I believe the victory was finally justified.
