A buffer stock warehouse in Tamale was raided by unidentified thieves, leading to the theft of a substantial amount of food supplies that were intended for the School Feeding Program.
The incident, which took place during the late hours of Friday, January 3rd, has had a profound impact on the School Feeding Program, causing significant disruption to its operations.
The unknown thieves carefully targeted a wide range of essential food supplies, including large quantities of beans, corn, gallons of cooking oil, and mackerel. As a result, the warehouse was left almost entirely depleted of these crucial items, leaving authorities struggling to address the immediate shortfall.
This theft not only affects the program’s ability to feed thousands of schoolchildren but also raises serious concerns about security and the potential long-term consequences for the community’s most vulnerable.
Suspicion is growing that the theft may have been orchestrated by party foot soldiers, particularly because it occurred shortly after the recent elections and the NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat.
In response to the incident, a group of selected Senior High School (SHS) headmasters, along with members of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), visited the site.
The buffer stock warehouse has previously been targeted, with another theft occurring on December 8, 2024, when bags of rice and cooking oil were reportedly taken. Following the latest theft, four individuals have been apprehended and are helping the police with their inquiries. Authorities are making concerted efforts to track down the other suspects and recover the stolen food supplies.
