Charles Nii Armah Mensah, widely known as Shatta Wale, a prominent Ghanaian Dancehall and Afrobeat artist, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to introduce significant reforms that would help elevate and strengthen the country’s entertainment industry. He emphasized the need for changes that would benefit local artists and promote the growth of the sector as a whole.
In a heartfelt Facebook post on January 13, 2025, Shatta Wale, leader of the Shatta Movement, appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to introduce reforms that would enhance Ghana’s entertainment industry, especially in the areas of radio and television.
He expressed his desire for changes similar to the appointment of new ministers when a new government takes office, with a focus on attracting more professionals to the sector. Shatta Wale emphasized that such reforms are essential for the future, ensuring that the next generation of artists views the music business as a legitimate career, not just a form of entertainment. He shared his concern that young talents should not face the same challenges he and others have experienced.
The “On God” hitmaker, Shatta Wale, has consistently advocated for a greater focus on the business side of Ghana’s entertainment industry. He has urged stakeholders to foster an environment that allows the sector to be seen as a legitimate and viable career path, rather than just a form of entertainment.
Letter to our new President of Ghana
I wish our new president John Dramani Mahama can also reform our music system to attract more professionals on radio and television, similar to the appointment of new ministers when they assume power. The entertainment industry needs that change. The younger ones coming can’t go through what some of us have been through. My humble 🙏 wish… just for the next generations to come and see this music business as a job and not just fun.
