Report: Alan Kyerematen to leave the NPP

According to sources  former NPP presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen will formally announce his departure from the party on Monday, September 25, 2023. Alan Kyerematen is anticipated to run as an independent in the 2024 general elections, according to a source close to the news outlet.

According to the source, Alan Kyerematen’s bad performance at the Special Delegates Conference was extremely embarrassing given his contributions and sacrifices to the party.

“I can confirm to you that Chief Alan is all set to announce his resignation from the NPP and go independent,” one of the insiders stated. If nothing changes at the last minute, he will leave the party and become independent.

“The Special Delegates Conference last month’s events were absolutely bad. The party’s vote-casting was dismal. It was quite embarrassing that, given everything he had accomplished and his standing inside the party, he came in third place behind Kennedy Agyapong. He will resign, go independent, and repay the party because he is not valued, the insider continued.

But according to the source, “a significant number of Alan Kyerematen’s allies across the country are not in favour of his decision to go independent and they have refused to be part of it,” according to 3news.

Prior to the primary election on November 4, 2023, Alan Kyerematen declared his exit from the run for president. He withdrew from the campaign due to intimidation of his supporters and harsh treatment of one of his agents in the North East Region.

According to official results released by the Electoral Commission, Bawumia received 629 votes to win the Special Delegates Conference. This amounted to 68.15% of all legitimate votes cast across the 17 centres.

Kennedy Agyapong, the MP for Assin Central, finished in second with 132 votes, or 14.3%, while Alan Kyerematen received 95 votes, or 10.29%.
