President John Dramani Mahama will inaugurate the newly constituted Armed Forces Council today, March 24, 2025, to oversee the administration and strategic direction of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Armed Forces Council is tasked with advising the President on matters related to defense policy, military administration, and operational readiness.
The Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, will serve as the Chairperson of the Armed Forces Council.

The inauguration of the Council is expected to strengthen defense governance and improve coordination between the government and the Ghana Armed Forces.
With the Vice President as Chairperson, the Council is set to prioritize modernizing the military, enhancing welfare for personnel, and strengthening national security policies.
The Armed Forces Council also plays a key role in fostering inter-agency collaboration, working closely with other security institutions and agencies to ensure a unified approach to national defense and security. This collaboration helps in addressing complex security challenges, such as terrorism, cyber threats, and regional instability, by ensuring that the military’s strategies align with broader national security frameworks.
