President John Dramani Mahama has officially launched the 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, describing it as a bold and transformative policy aimed at reviving Ghana’s economy.
Speaking at the launch on Wednesday, July 2, President Mahama clarified that the 24-hour initiative goes beyond simply extending working hours. He stressed that it is focused on driving productivity and creating wider economic opportunities.
He emphasized that the programme is not just another policy but a comprehensive national reset designed to unlock Ghana’s full economic potential.
“This marks a strategic shift—a bold move to realize the vision of a self-reliant, industrious, and inclusive Ghana,” he said, adding that the policy aligns with the founding ideals of a creative and prosperous African nation.

He stated that the initiative, referred to as the “24H+ Programme,” represents a shift from slogans to a concrete national strategy, marking the beginning of a nationwide mobilisation rather than the conclusion of a campaign.
Mahama reiterated that the programme is not merely about increasing working hours, but rather about unlocking productivity and boosting exports through inclusive, multi-sectoral interventions.
As a flagship policy of his administration, the 24H+ initiative is designed to transform Ghana’s productivity framework by extending economic activity beyond regular hours and integrating key sectors into a cohesive value chain.
With an estimated budget of $4 billion, the government plans to provide $300 million to $400 million in seed funding to address viability gaps and encourage private sector participation.
The initiative aims to create 1.7 million high-quality jobs over the next four years by targeting critical value chains in agriculture, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, infrastructure, and logistics.
Its broader goals include reducing dependence on imports, enhancing exports, and tapping into the full economic potential of every Ghanaian, around the clock.
The programme is laid out in nine detailed documents: one comprehensive “Full Report” and eight subprogramme reports—each focusing on a specific area, namely Grow24, Make24, Build24, Show24, Connect24, Fund24, Aspire24, and Go24.
