H.E. John Mahama, President of Ghana, has directed Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police, to initiate an immediate investigation into the unfortunate deaths of eight Ghanaians during the 2020 and 2024 general elections.
A statement issued highlighted that these incidents have profoundly affected the nation’s democratic process, calling for immediate and transparent action.
In a letter signed by Callistus Mahama, Ph.D., Secretary to the President, the government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
The proposed actions involve the creation of a specialized taskforce within the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to specifically address these cases.
The statement also suggests conducting detailed interviews with eyewitnesses and the families of the victims to gather vital evidence.
Furthermore, the government has urged a review of the electoral security protocols to identify any shortcomings and determine accountability for the incidents that occurred during the affected elections.
