President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has established a five-member committee to determine the emoluments and perks of Article 71 office holders.

The committee will also review the wages and allowances of political office holders, as well as any other positions that the committee finds appropriate under the constitution.

Dr. Janet Fofie, a former head of the Public Services Commission, chairs the committee.

The president stated that the committee was formed on the advice of the Council of State.

The President said that the committee’s terms of reference are twofold. One, to provide suggestions regarding the emoluments and other privileges established in the constitution for Article 71 officeholders, as well as to investigate any other relevant ways that the committee believes appropriate to accomplish its task.

“I must emphasise that in recent times, there has been a lot of public discourse surrounding the remuneration of public officers, other than those of Article 71 office holders, and whether or not, notwithstanding the constitutional imperatives, we were deserving of what is being paid to us,” he continued.

“In light of the current challenges affecting our national economy. It is possible that your work will focus on these problems and make recommendations on how to address them,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
