No Ghanaian Casualties or Injuries in Israel-Iran Conflict – Says Ablakwa

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has confirmed that no Ghanaian has been killed or harmed in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.

In a Facebook post dated June 16, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa assured the public that there have been no Ghanaian casualties or injuries in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict. He stated that evacuation efforts from Iran are progressing well, and Ghana’s embassy in Israel has located 922 Ghanaians residing in the country, including 65 students enrolled in six universities.

He noted that regular communication channels have been established with the Ghanaian community in Israel. However, due to Israel’s declaration of a state of emergency and border closures, evacuations from Israel cannot proceed without direct authorization from Israeli authorities—a process Ghana is actively pursuing.

The conflict, now in its fourth day, has intensified, with both nations exchanging missile strikes. Iran’s latest attack damaged an Israeli oil refinery and part of the power grid, prompting global calls for diplomacy and de-escalation.

UPDATE No. 2: Safeguarding Ghanaians Amid Israel-Iran Conflict

1. There have been no reported Ghanaian casualties or injuries.

2. The evacuation process from Iran is progressing smoothly.

3. Ghana’s embassy in Israel has accounted for 922 Ghanaians currently residing in the country.

4. Among them are 65 Ghanaian students enrolled in six different universities across Israel.

6. Due to the state of emergency declared by Israeli authorities and the closure of all borders, evacuation from Israel is currently only possible with special authorization—Ghana is actively pursuing these necessary approvals.

7. Following guidance from the Israeli Foreign Ministry, which advised all diplomats and embassy personnel worldwide to work from home, Ghana’s embassy is complying with this directive.

8. Measures are being taken to ensure that all Ghanaians in Israel have access to bomb shelters for their safety.

9. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved an Emergency Evacuation Plan for Israel, which will be activated once conditions permit.

10. President Mahama’s Administration is fully committed to protecting Ghanaians affected by the conflict and will make every effort to ensure their safety and evacuation. The government is determined not to let any Ghanaian down during this crisis.

For God and Country.
