Muslims and Christians can be brought together by Bawumia, says the Presby Moderator

The outgoing Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Obiri Yeboah Mante, at a church service on Sunday, August 20 extolled the religious unifying character of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a Muslim-Christian.

Speaking at the Ramseyer Congregation in Abetifi Kwahu during the 23rd General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s concluding session, Rev. Prof. Mante said Ghana is grateful to God for giving the country Vice President Bawumia.

Despite being a Muslim, he said that the Vice President has accepted religious diversity and is at ease attending Christian services.

In one of our events, he recalled, “I was standing by Vice President Bawumia and, to my surprise, he sang all the lines of a hymn we were singing.”

I asked him how he learned all of these things, and he said that when he was younger, he was a Methodist Boys’ Brigade member. I’m not sure if he ultimately rose to the rank of officer, but I believe he is more than just a Muslim. Vice President Bawumia, in my opinion, is a Muslim Christian.

Many prominent figures from academics, politics, the chieftaincy, and the Presbyterian Church from around the continent attended the 23rd General Assembly’s final session.

Rev. Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye was chosen as the Church’s new Moderator at this year’s Assembly.
