Mortuary Workers to Begin Strike on November 28

The Mortuary Workers Association has warned of resuming its strike on November 28 to push for improved working conditions.

The Association stated that this decision was made due to their employers’ failure to address their demands.

In a letter dated November 25, 2024, and addressed to the Minister of Health and other relevant stakeholders, the Mortuary Workers Association communicated its intention to resume their strike action, which had been suspended since Thursday, September 26, 2024. The letter, signed by General Secretary Richard Kofi Jordan, stated, “We are writing to inform you that, due to the lack of genuine efforts to fully resolve the issues affecting

Mortuary Workers in Ghana, we are compelled to resume our strike action.” It went on to explain that, despite their continued efforts to find a mutually agreeable solution, the problems that led to the initial strike remain unresolved. As a result, the Association has been left with no alternative but to take this step in order to safeguard the interests of their members.

The mortuary workers stated, “The strike action will resume on Thursday, November 28, 2024, unless we receive a satisfactory response from your side concerning our unresolved demands. We remain hopeful that, even at this late stage, we can resolve our issues through constructive dialogue.”

The letter further instructed that, “All members working in both public and private facilities are hereby directed to close down all mortuaries beginning on November 28, 2024, and to keep them closed until further notice. This action will remain in effect until a satisfactory resolution to our demands is reached.”
