“Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader, has firmly stated that the Minority caucus will not tolerate any attempts at intimidation from the Majority caucus.”
On Friday, January 31, 2025, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin addressed the press following the chaos and disruptions that occurred in Parliament the previous night. The Effutu MP emphasized that while the Minority is open to collaborating with the Majority on government business, they will not tolerate any form of intimidation.
He made it clear that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) must understand that they have won the election, but they must govern in partnership with the Minority. Afenyo-Markin strongly stated that the Minority would not allow the Majority to use their numbers to force decisions, asserting that such behavior will not be tolerated.
The Minority Leader reassured the public that the Minority caucus remains committed to fulfilling their constitutional duties and ensuring that government business proceeds smoothly. He clarified that boycotting proceedings is not their approach, and that they will actively participate without obstructing the government’s work, given their prior experience in governance.
We cannot be intimidated even as we perform our constitutional mandate and we cause the parliamentary service to urgently step up security within the precincts of Parliament,” he added.
