Mahama Emphasizes Public Office as a Duty, Not a Means for Personal Gain

Former President John Dramani Mahama has underscored the importance of accountability in public service, stressing that leadership should be rooted in a commitment to serve the people rather than pursuing personal interests.

During the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at the State House in Accra on July 1, former President John Dramani Mahama stressed the importance of accountability in leadership, declaring, “We must hold those in authority accountable. Public office is a responsibility, not a privilege for personal gain.”

His remarks come amid growing public demand for transparency and integrity in governance. Mahama’s statement formed part of a wider appeal for ethical leadership and a collective national dedication to upholding good governance principles.

President Mahama also emphasized the importance of the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service, describing it as a sacred occasion on the national calendar that brings together people of all faiths for reflection, prayer, and gratitude.

The event gathered religious leaders, political figures, civil society organizations, and citizens from across the country, serving as both a spiritual assembly and a moment for national introspection. Key themes included unity, ethical leadership, and the pursuit of national renewal.

In closing, Mahama called on Ghanaians to stay engaged in their civic responsibilities, demand accountability from their leaders, and work collectively toward building a fair and prosperous nation.
