The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kim Lars Björkegren, a Swedish football coach is named as the new Head Coach of the Black Queens, Ghana’s senior national female football team. He replaces Nora Hauptle, whose term ended in December 2024.
With an 18 years coaching experience and holding a UEFA License A Coach, Björkegren comes in with an extensive body of knowledge in the said sector. The early times of Björkegren as a player saw him team up with Allsvenska Åtvidabergs FF for years breezing through his playing career until at 22 an injury cut short his playing career which then saw his transitioning to coaching. The 38-year-old Swede has been remembered for his outstanding performance in the women’s game, winning the Cyprus Women’s League trophy under Apollon Ladies and Sweden’s Elite women’s division under Linköpings FC. Furthermore, the 42-year-old has been awarded the Coach of the Season award in Cyprus for the 2020-2021 season involving a top place in this list getting him where he wanted to be. Besides, the joint record as Sven-Göran Eriksson the second coach from Sweden to win a domestic title in different countries is also something he managed during his coaching.
Björkegren’s life history spans over a coaching record that covers him being a scout and analyst for the Finland Women National Team, coaching Beijing BG Phoenix, the top team of the Chinese Women Super League, and Technical Director of Manila Digger FC in the Philippines as well.
