Kevin-Prince Boateng, a former Black Stars midfielder, has declared his retirement from football at the age of 36.

The Ghanaian-born German began his professional career with Hertha BSC and retired after playing the last two seasons of his career with the same club.

Boateng’s declaration ends an illustrious career that included appearances for Barcelona, AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspurs, and Borussia Dortmund.

He won four trophies with AC Milan, including the Italian Serie A and the Spanish La Liga with Barcelona.

Boateng scored 76 goals and provided 56 assists in 520 matches for his clubs while also putting up good performances at the national level despite a low amount of games.

The former German youth international switched nationalities and was picked for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He seized the opportunity and made a huge impression, including scoring Ghana’s first goal in the round of 16 encounter against the United States, which Ghana eventually won, advancing to the quarter-finals for the first time.

He was also a member of Ghana’s World Cup squad in 2014, but his presence sparked heated debate, leading to his expulsion from the country.

Kevin-Prince Boateng is the younger brother of former Bayern Munich great Jerome Boateng, who has chosen to represent Germany.
