Hughton admits We could have played better against CAR

Chris Hughton, the coach of the Black Stars, said that although winning against the Central African Republic (CAR), his team might have played better.

In their penultimate game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, the Black Stars conceded to the Wild Beasts in the 25th minute, giving their opponents hope of breaking a protracted losing skid at the Baba Yara Stadium.

A free-kick goal from Mohammed Kudus in the 43rd minute and a late goal from substitute Ernest Nuamah in the 88th minute helped Ghana recover to win the game 2-1 in the end.

Hughton recognised that his team had a sluggish start to the game during the post-game press conference. He does, however, think that it occasionally makes sense, as it did when Gahna took advantage of it to win this particular game.

“In the first half, we could have played better, but sometimes you have to wait for the game to open up…We performed well, in my opinion, today. We may have been more at ease in the end,” he remarked.

With the win, Ghana will compete in the AFCON for the 24th time, with the following tournament taking place in Ivory Coast in 2019.
