Ghana mourns the death of Akua Donkor

The founder and flag bearer of the Ghana freedom party, Akua Donkor has reportedly passed on

A family source has confirmed that Akua Donkor, the presidential candidate of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has passed away. She died on October 28 at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, formerly known as Ridge Hospital. Initially, she was admitted to Nsawam Government Hospital due to respiratory issues before being referred to the Greater Accra facility, where she passed around 10PM

Biography

Akua Donkor was born in February 1952 and hailed from the Afigya Kwabre District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. By profession, she was a cocoa farmer and was not known to have had any formal education. Despite this, she made significant strides in Ghanaian politics, advocating for rural communities and founding the Ghana Freedom Party.

Political ambition

Donkor founded the GFP in 2011 after serving as an elected Assembly Member for the Hemang Electoral Area in Kwabre East District. She had previously contested for the Member of Parliament position in Kwabre East but faced two unsuccessful elections in 2004 and 2008.

Akua Donkor passed away at age 72 at Ridge Hospital in Accra, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and a strong commitment to rural advocacy. Her contributions to Ghanaian politics and her dedication to the welfare of rural communities will be remembered by many.
