Franklin Cudjoe Expresses Concern Over Judiciary Becoming a Playground for Politicians”

Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has claimed that the country’s judicial system has been reduced to a playground for politicians.

During an interview on 3FM Sunrise, Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, criticized the 5-2 majority decision that overturned Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four parliamentary seats as vacant. He labeled the ruling as an act of “judicial terrorism.”

Franklin Cudjoe expressed his frustration, stating, “I’m sad that the judiciary has become a bully playground for politicians. Depending on how the Chief Justice feels about an issue, she can empanel anyone she believes may align with her views. This is not a proper judicial review; this is judicial terrorism at play.”

He further alleged that the 5-2 decision of the court was a deliberate cover-up, intended to create the illusion of differing reasoning among the judges, thereby misleading the public

IMANI Africa President, Franklin Cudjoe, criticized the 5-2 decision by the Supreme Court, stating, “The decision was just to make us feel as if there is some division among them. For me, it was a joke, and we have to start questioning the nomination process.”

The President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, emphasized that no constituency should be denied representation for any reason. He further expressed his frustration, stating, “I have told Afenyo-Markin that I wish he had stood up for us in the SALL case, just like he has done now. It makes me feel as though it was politics at play, not a genuine concern for everyone. If SALL had been in the stronghold of the NPP, I don’t think we would be discussing this matter. I feel angered and disappointed, but at the same time, I believe these people deserve to be represented.”

The Supreme Court, in a ruling delivered by a seven-member panel led by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, issued a 5-2 majority decision against Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant. The Court sided with the challenge brought forward by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
