Event Organizers Underpay Gospel Artistes – Nacee

Nana Kwaku Osei, also known as Nacee, has identified key factors affecting the financial success of gospel artistes.

During an interview with GhanaWeb at the 2024 Praise Achievement Awards ceremony, Nacee stated that event organizers fail to adequately compensate gospel musicians for their performances.

According to Nacee, the inadequate compensation given to gospel musicians plays a significant role in hindering the growth and overall progress of the gospel music industry. He pointed out that this persistent issue has left many gospel artistes struggling financially, as they are often not paid what they deserve for their performances. This financial strain, he explained, prevents them from making the necessary investments in their music, production, and overall career development, ultimately affecting the quality and sustainability of their work.

Nacee elaborated on the challenges faced by gospel musicians, emphasizing the lack of financial support and fair treatment in the industry. “We lack financial support because most gospel musicians, mostly they go to programmes, and then the event organisers are not paying them as much as they deserve. So we fight more than we are supposed to do,” he shared. He further noted that this ongoing struggle creates unnecessary hardships for gospel artistes, making it incredibly challenging for them to thrive and achieve their full potential within the music industry.

By shedding light on this issue, Nacee hopes to spark conversations around better compensation practices and increased support for gospel musicians, ensuring they are fairly rewarded for their contributions to the genre and their spiritual impact on audiences.

“I think with good finances or financial support, we will do more,” Nacee remarked, emphasizing the transformative impact that adequate funding could have on the gospel music industry.

The 2024 edition of the Praise Achievement Awards took place on November 24, at the Perez Dome in Accra, celebrating excellence in gospel music and honoring the contributions of artistes within the genre.
