Princess Town, a neighbourhood in the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly, has requested that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo grant it the title of a Paramountcy in a petition to the president.

The group vigorously argues that the current structure, in which Princess Town honours the Ahanta Traditional Council, is in conflict with long-standing regional customs and traditions.

Dr. Patrick Ekye Kwesie, the president of the Western Nzema Youth League, wonders whether it is proper for the Nzema community, which speaks a different language than Ahanta, to pay respect to and be governed by a traditional council.

He contends that the existing structure resulted from insufficient consultations and a failure to seek the advice of the appropriate parties prior to the 1988 delineation.

Consider the fact that, aside from Princess Town, nearby settlements like as Miemia, Cape Three Point, Egyaembra, and Prusi Akatakyie all speak Nzema and are all governed by the Ahanta Traditional Council.

“You might be interested to know that Cape Three Point Actual is called Andenle, to put it another way, we don’t understand Ahanta,” he continued. How then could a community like that fall under the Ahanta traditional council?”

He claims that his organisation has held extensive meetings with chiefs, opinion leaders, other organisations, and academics of both Nzema and Ahanta heritage, and everything leads to the fact that the demarcation process was flawed.

“In actuality, a lot of them agree with the main points of our petition calling for reform.

In the same vein, we believe that Princess Town, Cape Three Point, Prusi Akatakyie, Egyaembra, Miemia, and other nearby communities should be cut off from Ahanta West and added to the Nzema East Municipal Assembly, where there is ample historical evidence that they should be.

Recent development problems in Princess Town and other areas, according to Dr. Patrick Ekye Kwesie, have given them more reason to advocate for administrative changes.

“When it comes to development in the so-called quasi-areas outside of Ahanta, we feel left out and excluded. A typical example is the awful roads leading to Miemia, Cape Three Points, Eqyaembra, and Prusi Akatakyie, as well as the destroyed bridge leading to Princess Town.

We will benefit more from actual growth, in his opinion, if Princess Town is upgraded to a Paramountcy and added to Nzema East.
