The National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) request to broadcast a meeting on voter registration was turned down by the Electoral Commission (EC).
A live meeting between the NDC and the commission was called in order to discuss issues with the electoral roll for the general elections in 2024.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) may speak with the Commission about the inconsistencies it found in the Provisional Voters Register.
However, the EC stated, “As you already know, the essence of the Voters Exhibition Exercise is to correct discrepancies in the Register,” in answer to the main opposition party. These differences include, among other things, duplicate photos, voters who are not there, and missing names.
Therefore, your party’s finding of disparities is not a novel occurrence. The Commission is happy about it and hopes that it will contribute to the Exhibition Exercise’s goal of ensuring a Credible Register in advance of the 2024 General Election.
The EC’s reaction is shown below.
Regarding: SUGGESTION FOR A LIVE BROADCAST PRESENTING THE OBSERVATIONS FOUND IN PVR-2024
From the Commission, I hope this letter finds you well and extend my regards.
Regarding the aforementioned subject matter, reference is made to your letter dated September 4, 2024, with reference number NDC/HQ/E/69/VOL/30.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) may speak with the Commission about the inconsistencies it found in the Provisional Voters Register.
Rectifying inconsistencies in the Register is the main goal of the Voters Exhibition Exercise, as you are already aware.
The Commission is fully dedicated to ensuring that elections are credible, fair, transparent, orderly, and peaceful. The Commission, however, rejects the suggestion to broadcast this meeting live. At the scheduled time, our staff is prepared to meet with your team.
Thank You.
