The New Patriotic Party’s candidate for Cape Coast North in the Central Region, Ekow Ewusi, has urged security agencies to ensure that his rights and those of other candidates to free expression and sharing of their messages before the general elections in 2024 are protected. This request is in reaction to the vandalism and destruction of banners and billboards that cost thousands of cedis and were displaying his messages and campaign promises for the people of Cape Coast North.
Broken billboards and banners were put up in significant places like PPAG Stadium, Nurses Flat, Academy Road, Pedu Junction, and Esuekyir to win over the voters.
Mr. Ewusi addressed a press conference in Cape Coast. He feels that the act of vandalism is an attempt to intimidate him and cause harm to his campaigns. According to him, this may reduce his chances of winning. He suspects that it was done by his opponents, indicating that they are out to defame him.
Some people in the NPP have also accused members of the opposition of causing unfair actions.
They felt it was apparent that Ekow Ewusi was more likely to win the election with a huge margin, and that prompted the actions of the wrongdoers. They try attacking me at my events instead of thinking about how they should run their campaigns. They would always want to make me angry so that it gives the idea that I’m violent. I’m not. We hope the security agencies will deal with this issue to stop it from getting worse, he said.
