Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Education Minister, has stated that the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be published by December 29, 2024.
The announcement came after the Minister’s working visit to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) printing facility in Accra.
Earlier, WAEC had revealed that its scanners, crucial for marking and releasing results, were malfunctioning and could not be replaced due to unpaid debts that were affecting its operations.
To address these challenges, the Ministry allocated GHC 25 million to WAEC.
After his visit, Dr. Adutwum reported that WAEC is making considerable progress and expressed confidence that the results would be released as scheduled.
“This morning, we had the opportunity to visit the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and were given a comprehensive tour of their facility. I am pleased to report that significant progress is being made, and we have been assured that the results of the 2024 WASSCE will be released by December 29, or even earlier. This is critical, as it will allow universities to proceed with the admission process for students seeking to enroll in various degree and diploma programs.
During our visit, I was accompanied by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, and we both expressed our satisfaction with the work being done by WAEC. We were particularly impressed by the level of preparation and the efforts being made to ensure the timely release of the results. Despite the challenges faced earlier in the year, including equipment malfunctions, WAEC has shown resilience and determination to meet the set deadlines.
I would also like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to the staff of WAEC, who, even during the holiday break, are working tirelessly and diligently to ensure that the results are processed and released on time. Their commitment to ensuring that our students are not delayed in their educational journey is commendable, and we are truly appreciative of their hard work. This timely release of results will ensure that students can move forward with their educational plans without unnecessary hindrances.”
