The Electoral Commission (EC) has guaranteed all stakeholders that the Certified Voters Register for the 2024 general elections is reliable and robust.
The Commission has called on the public to support efforts to ensure the elections in December 2024 are free, fair, transparent, and credible
.On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, the Electoral Commission (EC) distributed digital versions of the Certified Voters Register to all registered political parties and independent presidential candidates, in accordance with Sub-Regulation 4 of Regulation 27 of Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) 91.
The digital files, provided via external hard drives, contained several key documents, including the Valid Voters Register, Exceptions List, Multiples List, Transferred Voters List, Absent Voters List, Manual Verification List, Proxy Voters List, and Special Voters List
.
A statement issued by the Electoral Commission (EC) mentioned that during the meeting, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) requested a summary of the above mentioned lists.
The statement noted that while the Commission is not legally obligated to provide statistics for the various lists to political parties, it responded to the NDC’s request in the spirit of transparency and cooperation.
To foster transparency and accountability, the Electoral Commission (EC) made the decision to compile the requested summaries on a regional basis. Recognizing the time it would take to generate these reports, political parties were patient and agreed to receive the breakdowns at a later time.
The statement further emphasized that, since 1992, the Electoral Commission has only provided political parties with soft copies of the Certified Voters Register, without the additional statistical breakdowns that the NDC had requested
The Commission would also like to officially confirm that, as promised during the IPAC meeting on October 15, 2024, it has honored its commitment to release the Certified Voters Register within the first week of November 2024.
“The Commission assures all stakeholders that the Certified Voters Register is solid and trustworthy. We call on the public to support the Commission in ensuring the delivery of free, fair, transparent, and credible elections in December 2024.”
