Delay in Result Declaration at Collation Centres Due to Party Supporter Infiltration – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has acknowledged that the declaration of results at collation centres has taken longer than expected.

During a press briefing on December 8, Samuel Tetteh, Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations at the EC, attributed the delay to the influx of party supporters at various collation centres nationwide.

Earlier, the EC had directed that only two party agents, candidates, and other accredited individuals would be allowed access to regional collation centres. However, the presence of unauthorized party supporters has disrupted the process, causing delays in announcing the results.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has reported that party supporters have gathered in large numbers at regional collation centres, causing delays in the result declaration process.

In response, the EC has called on political party leaders to immediately withdraw their supporters from the centres to ensure a smooth and timely collation of election results. The Commission emphasized that only accredited persons, including two party agents and candidates, are allowed access to the centres as previously directed.

“Party supporters have no reason to be at collation centres, as their presence is disrupting the process and causing delays,” stated Samuel Tettey, Deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations.

He appealed to supporters gathered at the centres to leave, enabling returning officers to declare the election results without further hindrance.

Meanwhile, officials have completed the counting and sorting of ballots at most polling stations nationwide.
