D-Cryme Runs for SRC President at Methodist University

Darlington Agyekum, the Ghanaian rapper known as D-Cryme, has announced his candidacy for the position of President of the Student Representative Council at Methodist University.

On April 7, 2025, D-Cryme made the announcement via a social media post, revealing his bid for the presidency of the Student Representative Council at Methodist University.

“Dear fellow students, the time for transformational leadership is NOW! Team D-Cryme is here to champion a new era of Transparency, Accountability, and Action. Our mission is clear: to build a campus that supports, protects, and uplifts every student,” he shared on Instagram.

D-Cryme outlined the following key policies he aims to implement if elected as President of the Student Representative Council:

1. Academic Support & Resources

2. Student Welfare & Well-being

3. Campus Infrastructure & Development

4. Student Engagement, Governance & Participation

5. Entertainment & Sports

6. Campus Safety & Security

7. Financial Support and Scholarships

8. Amendments and Review of the Constitution

On April 1, 2025, D-Cryme declared his intention to run for the position of SRC President. In his announcement, he stated: “Our university is more than just a place of learning; it is a thriving community where ideas, dreams, and aspirations come to life. Over the years, I have dedicated myself to making meaningful contributions to this institution. From pioneering the Wall of Fame, which honors outstanding administrators and lecturers, to launching the Digital Screen Initiative, which enhances communication and engagement across campus, my leadership will always be about innovation, inclusivity, and impact.”

D-Cryme emphasized that his vision for the SRC is bold, dynamic, and focused on addressing the needs of every student. He promised to implement transformative policies that will benefit students across the board.

In recent years, musicians have become increasingly involved in student leadership, with both Samini and Guru previously contesting for the SRC President position at their respective universities. D-Cryme will now be the third musician to follow this trend.

On August 23, 2022, Reggae/Dancehall artist Samini was sworn in as the President of the Students Representative Council (SRC) at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). Currently, Maradona Adjei Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, holds the position of SRC President at the University of Ghana.

D-Cryme is well known for his hit songs such as “Kill Me Shy,” “Me Ne Woaa,” “Fine Fine Girl,” “My Lady,” and more.
