Barima Sarpong Tweneboa Kodua, the Paramount Chief of Kumawu in the Ashanti Region, has commended the government for its successful implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which he described as one of the most impactful initiatives in the country.
During a visit by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as part of his campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, the Kumawumanhene expressed his deep appreciation for the contributions of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the development of Kumawu and Ghana as a whole. He specifically highlighted the Free SHS policy as a transformative achievement that has significantly improved access to education in the region.
The Chief emphasized that the Free SHS program has had a profound impact on the lives of families in Kumawu, with all children now able to attend school without the financial burden that once prevented many from continuing their education. “Today, I won’t say much, except to bear testimony. It has been eight years since you and your boss assumed office, and I am here to testify to the great work you have done for Kumawuman and the people of Ghana,” he stated, recognizing the efforts of both Dr. Bawumia and President Akufo-Addo.
Barima Sarpong Tweneboa Kodua explained that the evidence of the government’s success in the education sector is clear, not only through the Free SHS initiative but also through the ongoing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) projects and the expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs in the area. He noted that these initiatives, along with the school feeding program, have greatly alleviated the financial challenges that many parents face in educating their children. “All our children are in school, thanks to Free SHS,” he added, stressing the far-reaching benefits of the program for families in the region.
Beyond education, the Kumawumanhene acknowledged the NPP government’s achievements in other sectors, including agriculture, health, and infrastructure. He praised the establishment of a National Service Scheme project in Sekyere Afram Plains, as well as the construction of a new 120-bed hospital, which he said has created numerous job opportunities for local residents. He also pointed out the development of an ultra-modern district assembly complex and called on Dr. Bawumia to help elevate Kumawu to municipal status when he becomes President.
In terms of infrastructure, the Chief recognized the construction of roads in the area and the provision of equipment through the District Road Improvement Project (DRIP), which he said has had a positive impact on the local economy and improved connectivity.
Barima Sarpong Tweneboa Kodua also expressed his gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for his quick response to a request made by the community for two pick-up vehicles, which he said had made a real difference. He concluded his address by assuring the Vice President of Kumawu’s continued support for the NPP and its policies. He urged Dr. Bawumia to continue spreading his positive message across the country, assuring him that the people of Kumawu and Ghana would recognize and reward his dedication and hard work
