Dr. Adam Bonaa, a security expert, has called for the identification and arrest of individuals who allegedly took photos of their ballot papers during the Special Voting Exercise.

On Monday, December 2, images of thumb-printed ballot papers began circulating on social media during the voting process. These images sparked widespread concern and discussions about the integrity and confidentiality of the voting exercise, as they appeared to show ballots that had already been marked by voters.

Ghanaian professor Kwaku Asare, based in the United States, also weighed in on the issue, expressing his shock on Facebook: “I was shocked to see images of cast ballots circulating on social media. What’s going on?” This came amid concerns raised during the special voting exercise, particularly by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso Central constituency. The NDC alleged that some voters had taken photographs of their ballot papers after voting, further fueling worries about the integrity and confidentiality of the process.

The NDC Chairman for Ayawaso Central, Harry Otu, shared his observations with journalists, stating, “I was seated at a distance, carefully observing the voting process. I noticed that many of the voters, particularly those voting for Number 1, were taking photos of their ballots immediately after casting them. It was a recurring pattern, where they would vote and then take pictures of the votes they had just cast.” His comments highlighted growing concerns over the potential violation of the confidentiality of the voting process during the special voting exercise.
