Former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko has withdrawn from Saturday’s run-off against former Asante Mampong Member of Parliament (MP) Francis Addai-Nimoh.

According to Mr Agyarko, the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s policy of allowing only National Council members to vote is unconstitutional.

On Wednesday, August 30, it was decided to limit Saturday’s run-off, which is intended to determine a fifth candidate for the November 4 Presidential Primary, to just Council members.

The decision was made, among other things, to conserve money, according to the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong.

However, Mr Agyarko claims that this is not constitutional and that he will not participate in any unconstitutionality.

“It is totally unacceptable to me that such an unconstitutional act can be perpetuated on the altar of expediency,” he wrote to the Chairman of the Presidential Elections Committee.

“Am I to assume that the party was unaware of the cost implications?” It is unacceptable to change the rules of the game in the middle of the game,” he said on Thursday, August 31.

“Rules and regulations that are flipped in this manner are only harmful to fair play and justice.”

“It is a clear violation of the party’s constitution and the Special Electoral College guidelines.” It is an unconstitutional act with which I will not be associated.”

He stated that if he participates in such a procedure resulting from a “errant decision,” his conscience will judge him.

“I, therefore, respectfully request that you refrain from participating in such a contest.” “As always, I wish the party the best.”

This judgement is likely to give Mr Addai-Nimoh approval to be one of the five candidates for the November 4 primary.
