Bawumia Urges Security Personnel, Journalists, and Health Workers to Vote for Him

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate for the December 7 election, has urged health workers, media practitioners, and security personnel to vote for him as they participate in the special voting on Monday, December 4.

For the 2024 general election, a total of 328 special voting centres have been set up across the country, with 131,478 voters registered on the special voting list. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has appealed to health workers, media practitioners, and security personnel to support him in the upcoming election, stressing that the current administration, under both his leadership and that of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has made significant strides in developing key sectors. Dr. Bawumia is now seeking their continued support to ensure victory in the 2024 election.

In a message to these three vital groups, Dr. Bawumia highlighted several achievements that have taken place under the government’s leadership over the past eight years, particularly in the security, media, and health sectors. He began by addressing the security sector, stating, “We inherited a security sector facing numerous challenges, but we have significantly strengthened the ranks across our security agencies.” He further explained that the Ghana Police Service now boasts over 46,000 officers, a significant increase of nearly 13,000 compared to when they assumed office. Similarly, the Fire Service has seen its personnel numbers double to 15,000, while the Prisons and Immigration Services have also experienced similar growth in their ranks.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted the government’s substantial investment in security infrastructure, noting that over 900 vehicles and three helicopters have been added to the Police Service. He also pointed out that more than 11,000 surveillance cameras have been installed across the country, significantly enhancing the security system. On housing for security personnel, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that living conditions have been improved with the construction of new barracks and housing units. Additionally, he lauded the successful resolution of the Dagbon chieftaincy conflict, which he described as a major achievement in fostering national peace and unity. Looking ahead, Dr. Bawumia outlined plans to strengthen border security further by expanding the surveillance network, with the addition of 50,000 more cameras and 20,000 additional security officers.

Turning to the media, Dr. Bawumia pointed to the passage of the Right to Information (RTI) law as a key factor in improving the working environment for journalists. He also mentioned the establishment of the University of Media, Arts, and Communication (UniMAC), which has enhanced the media landscape. Additionally, the introduction of 5G technology and increased broadband services are expected to further support the media’s work, providing journalists with greater tools and resources to excel in their field. Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence that these technological advancements would enable the media to thrive even more in the coming years.

In the health sector, Dr. Bawumia assured the public that his government would continue to prioritize healthcare development, particularly through the completion of the Agenda 111 hospitals project. He also promised to expand the Zipline drone service, which has been a revolutionary tool in delivering medical supplies to remote areas across the country.

Concluding his message, Dr. Bawumia humbly requested the support of health workers, media personnel, and security officers, urging them to vote for him in the upcoming election to ensure the continuation of the progress made under the current administration. “I humbly ask for your support to continue the good work we have begun. When you go to the voting booth, vote for me,” he emphasized, highlighting that their votes would be crucial in securing a prosperous future for the

country.
