Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President and 2024 NPP Presidential Candidate, has expressed deep gratitude to a group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament who have publicly endorsed him to be retained as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 presidential election.
On Thursday morning, a group of about 67 NPP Members of Parliament visited Dr. Bawumia at his office in Accra to formally express their support for his continued leadership. In an interview with the media following the visit, Dr. Bawumia described the MPs’ endorsement as highly meaningful, highlighting it as a “strong show of support” from influential grassroots figures within the party.
Dr. Bawumia described the meeting as a joyful and meaningful courtesy visit from Members of Parliament, during which they officially pledged their support for his leadership. He expressed delight over the growing number of MPs backing him, stating, “I’m so happy in terms of the group that have declared support for me from Parliament—it now amounts to over 60 Members.” Highlighting the significance of the endorsement, he noted that with 88 NPP MPs in total, the support represents a substantial majority. “This is a strong show of support, and I thank them, and I thank God for it,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia expressed confidence in the impact of the MPs’ endorsement, stating that it holds great significance given their strong influence over constituencies. He remarked, “I believe this is going to be very important because, as you know, Members of Parliament control the constituencies to a very large extent, and I’m very happy about what they have done today.”
While expressing his appreciation to the MPs, Dr. Bawumia also called on them to roll up their sleeves and actively contribute to the progress of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the development of the nation.
“Off we go. There’s a lot of hard work ahead to support both the party and the country,” Dr. Bawumia stated, highlighting the need for continued dedication and effort following the show of support from the MPs.
