The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on religious and faith-based organisations to use their pulpits to preach peace to their members and the rest of the public as the country moves toward the December general election.

He said the crucial roles they played in society in ensuring stability could not be underestimated—and thereby called on them to step up to make sure that the elections go on smoothly without any incidents.

“As we approach this critical election in December, so much is anticipated of the churches and other religious groups in terms of prayer, sermons and peaceful mediation towards stabilizing the country of Ghana,” he said.

Dr Bawumia made the call in a speech read on his behalf by the former Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, at the opening of the 11th General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) in Tamale last Thursday.

The event brought together leadership and delegates of the assembly to discuss key issues, make decisions, formulate policies and ensure adherence to rules and regulations guiding the future of the church.

The five-day meeting is under the caption: “Care for God’s Creation: The Mission of the Church”.

In his remarks, Dr Bawumia called for religious tolerance and harmony among the citizenry, saying with peace and stability, development would be able to thrive in the nation.
