The campaign team of Nana Kwame Bediako, the Founder and Leader of the New Force Movement, was reportedly attacked on Tuesday, November 26, in the Anyaa-Sowutuom constituency in the Greater Accra Region.
The incident left one person injured and resulted in the damage of two vehicles. According to reports, the media team and other members of the campaign convoy were left traumatized by the violence, leading to an abrupt halt of the campaign procession. Tensions escalated as some residents of the community blocked the convoy with stones, preventing them from continuing their activities.
While the exact cause of the attack remains unclear, reports suggest that the youth in the area were upset with Nana Kwame Bediako and his team for campaigning in the constituency without first paying a formal courtesy visit to the community’s chief. This perceived oversight may have sparked the anger of the local youth, who expressed their dissatisfaction by disrupting the campaign.
As the situation continued to deteriorate, the police were called in to provide protection and restore order. Despite their presence, the campaign team and its members remained on edge, as some angry youth on motorbikes appeared ready to escalate the situation further.
Though Nana Kwame Bediako himself managed to escape unscathed, the media personnel covering the event were visibly shaken by the attack. In fact, a UTV journalist reportedly withdrew from coverage due to the trauma caused by the incident.
The event has raised concerns about the growing tensions in the area and the challenges small political parties face when campaigning in some communities.
