Alfred Kotey Ashie Wins NDC Parliamentary Candidate Seat For Odododiodioo

Alfred Kotey Ashie has successfully acquired the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidacy for the Odododiodioo constituency in the Greater Accra Region, in a democratic process characterized by fervor and active involvement.

Over 2300 delegates used their right to vote during the election, which took place following the resolution of legal challenges that had first caused a postponement.
In the election on Sunday, he received 1209 votes, while his opponent, Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea, received 952 of the 2161 total votes cast.

Michael Nii Yarboi Annan, the disqualified candidate, filed an application for an interlocutory injunction in order to challenge the party’s Functional Executive Committee’s decision to disqualify him.

However, the reopening of the election process was made possible by the Accra High Court’s dismissal of this suit.

Based on the conclusions of a special committee, the NDC had excluded Annan from running in the Odododiodioo Constituency parliamentary election. The committee, which was formed by the party’s Functional Executive Committee, came to the conclusion that Annan did not fulfill the requirements for qualification listed in NDC Constitution Article 41(8)(b).

A member must have been an active party member at the constituency level for the four years prior to the nomination filing date, according to Article 41(8)(b). The primary was originally scheduled to be postponed indefinitely due to a court injunction secured by the disqualified candidate.

Following the court’s dismissal, the NDC held the Odododiodioo constituency primary, in which Alfred Kotey Ashie emerged victorious as the party’s nominee for parliament.

With the win, he will be able to represent the NDC in the next legislative elections.
