Akufo-Addo Appoints Herbert Krapa as New Energy Minister

 

President Akufo-Addo has officially appointed Herbert Krapa as the substantive Minister for Energy, with the appointment taking effect from Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

 

This decision comes as part of the President’s efforts to strengthen the leadership of the Ministry and ensure effective governance within the energy sector.Herbert Krapa’s appointment was announced by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Office of the President, in a statement on November 20, 2024.

Before his new appointment, Herbert Krapa served as the Minister of State at the Energy Ministry from July 15, 2024, until his substantive appointment as Energy Minister. President Akufo-Addo stated that Krapa’s appointment was a result of his “exceptional diligence, professionalism, and steadfast commitment to his duties,” highlighting his significant contributions to the progress and stability of Ghana’s energy sector.

 

In recognition of his hard work and leadership, President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that Mr. Krapa will continue to excel in his new role, driving the continued growth and transformation of the energy sector for the benefit of the nation, the statement added.

 

He also held the position of Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry from 2021 to 2023, after serving as the Government Spokesperson on Governance and Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Information from 2018 to 2020.

 

Herbert Krapa was called to the Ghana Bar in 2017. He has gained significant experience in areas such as Trade and Investment Law, Commercial Law, Debt Restructuring, and other related fields.

 

Herbert Krapa previously worked as a lawyer at Africa Legal Associates, a renowned law firm in Ghana. He earned a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ghana and a Master of Laws degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in the UK, where he specialized in International Finance, Secured Financing, International Commercial Arbitration, and Corporate Crime.

 

Additionally, Krapa holds a Master of Science degree in Development Finance from the University of Ghana Business School and a Certificate in Human Rights Law from Fordham University in New York.
