The “very experienced” Egypt will be a difficult task for the Black Stars in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), according to Ghana coach Chris Hughton.

Additionally, he acknowledged that he knew little to nothing about Ghana’s two group rivals, Mozambique and Cape Verde. Ghana will compete in the tournament in the Ivory Coast, which will begin on January 13, 2024, with its opening match against Cape Verde in Abidjan, in Group B along with record-holder Egypt.

Hughton’s evaluation of Egypt’s strength was clear when he told Ghana FA media that Egypt was “a very experienced side, very experienced AFCON campaigners, and I think they have more wins than any other country.” They are undoubtedly a tough opponent. Hughton acknowledged the team’s enthusiasm to face one of the top African soccer squads.

Hughton acknowledged that he knew little about Mozambique and Cape Verde, two teams that play in the same continent. We will, however, complete all of our homework over the upcoming months and begin watching their games before the competition. With the caveat that group draws are unpredictable, he added, “But I think whenever a group comes out, you always think that it could have been better for us, and could have been worse for us.”

Hughton is currently focusing on two upcoming friendlies: one against Mexico on October 15 at 12:30 am local time and the other against the United States on October 18 at 12:30 am local time.
