In accordance with the Right to Information (RTI) Law, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the North Tongu Constituency, wrote to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana to request information about a few transactions made by the Central Bank.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP raised 10 questions in a letter dated September 11th regarding a change of decision on the construction of a head office at the Accra Marine Drive Project.
Additionally, he claimed that $5 million had been given to Marine Metro Development Limited, a business that had only been founded in 2020.
The sixth pointer in the letter stated, “Incontrovertible incorporation documents obtained from the Office of the Registrar of Companies reveal that Dr Kwame Nyantekyi-Owusu is a Director of Marine Metro Development Limited.”
Dr. Kwame Nyantekyi-Owusu has been appointed to and is a Non-Executive Director of the Board of the Bank of Ghana, according to the bank’s 2020, 2021, and 2022 Annual Report and Financial Statements.
Does this not demonstrate a clear-cut instance of flagrant conflict of interest? he queries.
The man in question, according to Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa, “is a powerful brother-in-law of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who is not new to dubious deals of this nature,” he added.
