Jadon Sancho claims that he has been “a scapegoat for a long time” after Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag claimed that he was benched for the team’s match against Arsenal on Sunday due to subpar performance in training.
The English forward skipped the trip to Emirates Stadium for the 3-1 defeat for United.
Sancho, according to Ten Hag, had not attained the “level” necessary for inclusion.
Please don’t take what you read at face value, Sancho urged in a post on social media.
“I won’t tolerate people stating things that are entirely false; I’ve behaved myself admirably during training this week.
“I think there are other factors at play here that I won’t discuss; it’s unfair that I’ve been used as a scapegoat for so long!”
Sancho, 23, transferred from Borussia Dortmund to Old Trafford in 2021 for £73 million.
In his 58 appearances, he has only contributed six assists and nine league goals due to inconsistent play.
Ten Hag said, “Jadon, on the basis of his performances in training, we did not select him.” Ten Hag then went on to explain why he did not choose Sancho for his team to travel to Arsenal.
“At Manchester United, you have to perform at a certain level every day, and we can choose who plays in the front line. He was therefore not chosen for this game
With the words, “All I want to do is play football and support my team while having fun,” Sancho vowed to continue competing for a spot on the team.
Even though I am conscious that every week is difficult, I am grateful to be able to play with outstanding players. I respect every choice the coaching staff has made.
No matter what, I’m not giving up until I acquire this badge.
Ten Hag voiced his satisfaction in the “magnificent” Sancho after the winger scored his first Premier League goal since his comeback in February.
Ten Hag once said the England international was not healthy enough to play after he had spent three months battling both physical and emotional problems.
Sancho made his comeback against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup semifinal on February 1 and ignited a comeback against Leeds in the Premier League a week later, scoring the equaliser in a 2-2 draw.
