According to Kwabena Agyei Agyepong and Boakye Agyarko, two of the ten candidates for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag, newly appointed Director of Conflict Resolution for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, two of the ten candidates are hitting the right notes in their campaign messages.
But these are the candidates that the delegates won’t support, he claimed.
On Saturday, August 26, the NPP will have their super delegates meeting in an effort to limit the field of prospective flagbearer candidates from ten to five.
On Friday, August 25, Mr. Amaliba commented during a discussion on this on the Big Issue on TV3. He said, “There are some candidates, like Kwabena Agyepong and Boakye Agyarko, who are striking the right notes, but these are people that the delegates will choose these people over others
will not vote for.
In the meantime, the NPP has informed all delegates who would be casting ballots during the special delegates meeting on Saturday, August 26, that doing so in public is against the law.
The party provided notice that anyone who violates this clause would face legal consequences in line with the law.
Delegates are now informed that any ballots cast and publicly exhibited will be disqualified, according to a statement released on August 24 by the Presidential Election Committee.
“We wish to reiterate that there will be no Congress on the day of voting, and voting will strictly be walk-in,” the statement continued.
“In light of this, it is anticipated that no opportunity will exist for any National Party Executive, official, or regional executive to publicly address delegates on the day of the vote.
“With these rules in place, no one will be able to determine the voting preferences and patterns of particular voters once the voting process is over, we want to reassure all relevant parties, including stakeholders, delegates, aspirants, and the general public. This safeguard ensures the confidentiality and objectivity of the voting process.
