Cina Soul Calls on Police to Arrest Big Akwes Over Threats

l

Cina Soul, the Ghanaian singer-songwriter, says she feels threatened by recent remarks made by Kumawood actor Big Akwes, and is calling on the police to take action.

Christie Quincyna Quarcoopome, known as Cina Soul, has voiced serious concerns over threatening remarks made by Kumawood actor Big Akwes and has called on the Ghana Police Service and the Ministry of Communications to take immediate action.

The issue arose from a video shared on Cina Soul’s X account on July 1, showing Big Akwes during an interview on Bryt TV playing a Kiss-Marry-Kill game. When asked to choose between actress Vivian Jill and Cina Soul, he said he would marry Vivian Jill but described in disturbing detail how he would “kill Cina Soul.” He mentioned using a magic mirror to summon her spiritually, stabbing her repeatedly, and drinking her blood.

Deeply disturbed by the comment, Cina Soul took to social media tagging the police and the communications ministry, urging swift intervention. She expressed feeling genuinely threatened and emphasized the need to condemn and prevent the normalization of such dangerous language on public platforms.

“I initially chose not to respond because I didn’t want to be associated with this individual, but now I feel truly threatened,” she wrote. “It’s important we take a firm stand against hate being broadcast on our TV and radio.”

Big Akwes and Bryt TV have faced widespread criticism following the incident, while many Ghanaians have shown support for Cina Soul.

Big Akwes’ Harsh Criticism of Cina Soul Sparks Backlash

In April 2025, Cina Soul responded to disparaging remarks made by Kumawood actor Big Akwes regarding her appearance.

During a conversation on Accra-based Max TV on April 1, 2025, Big Akwes criticized the singer’s choice of outfit in a dance video promoting her “Did I Lie” album, body-shaming her for wearing a crop top and baggy trousers while performing dance moves.

He claimed that her attire did not align with her brand and used derogatory language to describe her appearance.

Reacting on her X account, Cina Soul expressed frustration, explaining that she had invested significant time and money into promoting the album, only to be met with criticism focused on her clothing choice.

“This is why I choose who and where I do interviews. I spent so much of my own money to make and promote this album, and no one said a word—until I wore a crop top and cargo pants for some dance content. Suddenly, it’s a problem because ‘she didn’t dress like this before.’ I just want to make music, bro,” she wrote.

Following the backlash, Max TV issued an apology for Big Akwes’ comments and removed the video from their social media platforms.
