University of Ghana Suspends 14 Students for Two Years Due to Misconduct

The Academic Board of the University of Ghana has handed a two-academic-year suspension to 14 students for engaging in disorderly conduct and disobeying directives from university authorities.

This was announced in a press statement issued by the Registrar, Emelia Agyei-Mensah, on June 16, 2025.

“In line with the Academic Board’s decision to publicly disclose the names of staff and students disciplined for misconduct, the following individuals have been sanctioned for various infractions,” Mrs. Agyei-Mensah stated.

The University of Ghana has released a detailed list outlining disciplinary actions taken against students and staff for various offenses. The list highlights a broad range of infractions and corresponding penalties, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to upholding academic integrity and maintaining discipline on campus.

Sanctions include multi-year suspensions, permanent expulsions—particularly in cases of impersonation—and the awarding of punitive grades such as Grade Z and Grade X. These grades are typically given in instances where students are found in possession of unauthorized electronic devices, including mobile phones and smartwatches, during examinations or other restricted academic activities. Such actions are considered serious breaches of the university’s regulations.

According to the statement issued by the Registrar, Emelia Agyei-Mensah, a total of 115 individuals—comprising both students and university employees—have been affected by the disciplinary measures. This mass sanctioning follows a decision by the University’s Academic Board mandating that the names of all individuals penalized for misconduct be made public as part of efforts to promote transparency and deter future violations.

The University has reiterated its stance on maintaining a high standard of conduct and has urged all members of its community to adhere strictly to its rules and regulations.
