Brig. Gen. Glover Ashong Annan Named Commissioner of Customs Division

Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan has been appointed Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) by President John Dramani Mahama, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan, a highly respected and principled military officer, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). His appointment comes at a crucial time when the government is focused on revitalizing key sectors of the economy, and Brig. Gen. Annan’s leadership is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the Customs Division and helping the GRA achieve its revenue targets. These targets are essential to boosting the nation’s economic growth and enhancing its capacity to fund development projects, particularly in light of the ongoing efforts to stabilize and expand the economy.

Brig. Gen. Annan’s military background, combined with his extensive leadership experience, positions him well to tackle the challenges facing the Customs Division. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Presidential Security Coordinator, a role that placed him at the heart of national security and strategic operations. His experience in overseeing complex security and operational tasks has given him a unique perspective that will be invaluable in addressing the administrative and operational needs of the Customs Division.

In his new role, Brig. Gen. Annan is expected to bring a results-oriented approach, focusing on improving efficiency, transparency, and accountability within the division. His leadership is anticipated to drive a culture of discipline and excellence, helping to streamline processes and reduce any inefficiencies that may hinder the performance of the division. Furthermore, his efforts are expected to strengthen the enforcement of customs regulations, reduce smuggling, and improve revenue collection, which are all critical to supporting the country’s economic recovery and long-term growth objectives.

The Customs Division plays a vital role in Ghana’s revenue generation, and with Brig. Gen. Annan at the helm, there is great optimism that the division will become more effective in supporting the national economy. By ensuring that revenue targets are met, the division can contribute to the government’s efforts to build infrastructure, provide social services, and implement other key development programs.

In his appointment speech, President John Dramani Mahama expressed his confidence in Brig. Gen. Annan’s ability to lead the Customs Division. He also took the opportunity to thank the outgoing Commissioner, Brigadier General Ziblim Ayorrogo, for his years of dedicated service to both the division and the nation. President Mahama highlighted the positive impact that Brig. Gen. Ayorrogo’s leadership had on the division during his tenure and expressed gratitude for his commitment to the role.

With Brig. Gen. Annan now in charge, expectations are high that the Customs Division will experience a renewed sense of purpose and efficiency, further enhancing its critical role in Ghana’s revenue mobilization efforts. His leadership is expected to be a key factor in ensuring that the division contributes significantly to the nation’s economic development in the coming years.
