The Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) has reiterated its dedication to offering one hot, nutritious meal each day to students in public basic schools across the country as the 2025 academic year begins.
In a press release dated January 13, 2025, the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) instructed all current caterers to resume meal services for beneficiaries across all 16 regions of Ghana following the reopening of schools on January 8.
The statement also mentioned that the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP), in partnership with the GSFP, plans to introduce a new caterer procurement process under the current administration. This initiative aims to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the programme, which currently serves over four million schoolchildren in underserved communities.
The National Coordinator also revealed that the government has made significant progress in settling arrears owed to caterers. Payments for the entire third term of the 2023/2024 academic year have been processed.
Additionally, 40 of the 71 cooking days owed for the first term of the 2024/2025 academic year have been paid, with the remaining 31 days set to be settled shortly.
The GSFP urged stakeholders, including community leaders in beneficiary areas, to assist caterers in carrying out their duties without any obstacles.
