The Ghana Police Service has implemented security measures for the swearing-in of President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2025. In a statement, the police outlined that several major roads in Accra will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to ensure smooth proceedings and public safety.
Affected areas include the Ako Adjei Interchange, AU Roundabout, State House, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Independence Square, and nearby roads. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, with key roads such as 28th February Road, Starlet 91 Road, and Lokko Street being diverted. Detours include Salem Avenue and Abdul Nasser-Gamel Road.
Designated parking areas for attendees include the Forecourt of the State House, Effua Sutherland Park, and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture premises.
The police have also urged residents within the designated security zones, invited dignitaries, and the general public to comply with the outlined directives to ensure a smooth and peaceful ceremony.
In addition, similar security measures are being implemented for the swearing-in of Members of Parliament-elect and the Speaker of Parliament, scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2025, at Parliament House.
Citizens are encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to contribute to the success of these important national events.
